WASHINGTON D.C. —Congressman French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement in response to U.S. Attorney General William Barr’s release of the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election:
“From day one of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, I have repeatedly called for the Special Counsel, led by Robert Mueller, to be given the time and resources required to complete its work. After 22 months of an exhaustive investigation, the American people now know the truth that the Special Counsel found no evidence of Americans conspiring with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election. We also learned that at no point did the White House exert executive privilege to block the public release of the final report. I trust Special Counsel Mueller’s exhaustive findings and have faith in Attorney General Barr’s final determinations. I applaud Attorney General Barr for quickly releasing as much of the final report to the public as consistent with applicable law, regulations, and Department of Justice policies.
“The Mueller report reinforces the fact that we need to strengthen our election infrastructure and protect our voting system from foreign adversaries like Russia. Congress should be focused on finding solutions to these problems, not holding more partisan hearings. For the good of the country, it's time to end the toxic rhetoric that has poisoned our political discourse and unite as Americans to focus on solving the real challenges that we face—together.”
