Listed below are the programs, events, and opportunities hosted by Congressman Hill that recognize the talent and leadership of students in the Second Congressional District.

United States Service Academies

Students interested in attending one of the five Service Academies should reach out to Congressman Hill’s office in Little Rock for more information about receiving a Congressional Nomination. Applications to Congressman Hill for nomination for the academies, including the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD), United States Military Academy (West Point, NY), United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO), United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, NY), and the United States Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT), are due November of the student’s senior year.

Congressional Art Competition

High school students are invited to participate in the Congressional Art Competition every April. The student with the winning artwork is invited to attend a reception at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. Flights are provided for the student and a parent/guardian courtesy of Southwest Airlines. The winner’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Congressional STEM App Challenge

High school students are invited to participate in the U.S. House of Representatives’ STEM App challenge. For this challenge, which focuses on the STEM areas, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics, contestants submit projects that can range from presenting an idea of how an app might work to creating a functioning app. The winner of this competition will be honored at a reception at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in November.

Educational Award Program (EAP)

The EAP was instituted in 2015 by Congressman Hill to recognize those students who have shown strong commitment to high academic achievement. The award is available to one senior and one junior from each high school in the Second Congressional District as nominated by faculty and staff of those schools. The students who receive the award should show significant commitment to academics, their schools, and their communities. Congressman Hill will present the award to students at ceremonies held at the end of each school year and will publicly recognize each student’s achievements.

Hangout with Hill

All high schools in the Second Congressional District are invited to participate in a live link-up via Google Hangout, Skype or Zoom with Congressman Hill while he is in his Washington, D.C. office. These Hangouts are an excellent opportunity for students to ask Congressman Hill a variety of questions and for the Congressman to give the students a quick update about what’s happening in Congress. These occur once or twice per month during the school year and are available by request.
