Reps. Hill & Deutch on 5-year Anniversary of Majd Kamalmaz's Disappearance in Syria “Today we mark 5 years since Majd Kamalmaz was taken hostage in Syria. Majd, a psychologist, was in the region treating patients traumatized by the Syrian war when he traveled to Syria to visit family and was stopped by the Assad regime. We stand with the Kamalmaz family in appealing for his safe return, and we urge the US government to make the return of American hostages a consistent priority.” Further Background: Majd Kamalmaz is a former Arkansas resident and was detained in Syria in 2017. In 2019, Rep. Hill was introduced to his family and Majd’s son, Khalid, was Rep. Hill’s State of the Union guest. Rep. Hill subsequently wrote President Trump requesting his help in bringing Majd safely home from Syria. Rep. Hill continues to remain engaged with Majd’s family but Majd’s status in Syria remains unknown. |
