Statement on Additional Funds for Puerto Rico
Washington,

WASHINGTON D.C. — On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a $4.67 billion emergency aid package for Puerto Rico. Congressman French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement ahead of the vote:
“This package is premature as there are no completed studies to determine the extent of damage by recent earthquakes and it includes provisions that have nothing to do with Puerto Rico. Also, Puerto Rico has yet to spend approximately $20 billion of the $40 billion Congress has allocated over the past three years. I have a great amount concern for the people of Puerto Rico, but before we send more funding, I need to see an assessment of needs, an accounting for the available funds, and that it’s going for the intended purpose. This bill, as written, does not meet that standard.” |
