WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Congressmen French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement after signing on as an original cosponsor of H.Res.630, sponsored by Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), to condemn and censure House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff for his false retelling of the conversation between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky:
"Now, Speaker Pelosi, caving to her more radical members, has initiated a so-called 'impeachment inquiry.' In doing so, she has abandoned House precedent and procedures used by Democrats during the Nixon impeachment and by Republicans during the Clinton impeachment. She has failed in her responsibilities as Speaker of the House. Furthermore, she has compounded her error by placing House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff in charge. "Over and over again, Chairman Schiff has repeatedly misled Congress and the American people. On September 17, 2019, Chairman Schiff told the media and the American people: 'We have not spoken directly with the whistle blower. We would like to.' We now know that was just plain untrue. Additionally, Chairman Schiff’s opening statement in front of the Acting Director of National Intelligence on September 26, 2019, included a blatantly false retelling of President Trump’s phone conversation with the Ukrainian president. "I am deeply concerned about Chairman Schiff and whether he can be trusted to lead any impeachment efforts and whether his partisan slant will override his ability to conduct a fair and transparent process. That is why I signed on as an original cosponsor of the House Resolution, H.Res.630, sponsored by my colleague Congressman Andy Biggs, to condemn and censure House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff." |
