RELEASE: Rep. French Hill on Monday UN Security Council Meeting on Ukraine Crisis

Rep. French Hill (AR-02), Congressional Representative to the 76th UN General Assembly, today issued the following statement after Monday’s UN Security Council meeting on the crisis in Ukraine.

“I was pleased to see U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield at the UN Security Council calling on the international community to hold Russia accountable for its actions. Contrary to continued Russian and Chinese claims that the West are escalating tensions, Russia has been the aggressor throughout.

“Russia’s history of encroachment on sovereign nations is evident in the Russo-Georgian War of 2008, Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and subsequent actions in and around eastern Ukraine since, and most recently, in the form of amassing 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border. This meeting should just be the start of international condemnation at the UN, and I encourage the Biden Administration to continue to use all available options at the UN to hold Russia accountable and uphold peace and security in eastern Europe.”

Further Background:

Last week, Rep. Hill called on President Biden to take the necessary steps at the UN to counter Russia’s aggression and ensure Ukraine’s autonomy.

Additionally, earlier this month, Rep. Hill outlined his concerns with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s escalating aggression toward Ukraine in an op-ed in The Washington Times.
