Hill Leads Effort to Pass Bipartisan Opioid Legislation

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to extend the ban on fentanyl-related substances until May 6, 2021, following Senate passage of the legislation two weeks ago. Rep. French Hill (AR-02), who was the lead Republican co-sponsor of the House version of the Fentanyl Sanctions Act and was active in securing its inclusion in the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), praised his colleagues for extending the ban.

“Across Arkansas, heartbroken families have told me their stories about how the opioid crisis has claimed the lives of their loved ones. According to the CDC, in 2017, more than 130 Americans lost their lives to opioid overdose each day, and nearly half of these deaths were attributable to fentanyl. We have a responsibility to stem the tide of this crisis and prevent more families from suffering the tragic loss of a loved one to opioid addiction,” said Congressman Hill. “I applaud both Democrats and Republicans for putting politics aside to protect our children by preventing these illegal substances from hitting our streets.”
