Rep. Hill Applauds Release of Trump Administration’s Housing Finance Reform Plan
Washington,
September 6, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement after the release of the Trump Administration's proposed housing finance reform plan:
“On this day 11 years ago, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were placed into conservatorship. This historic move was never meant to be a permanent solution in response to the financial crisis. However, complacency and a lack of Congressional action have resulted in the government’s footprint in our housing finance industry continuing to grow. This failure to act is unsustainable and continues to put American taxpayers at risk. “The reform recommendations released by the administration signal a strong first step towards addressing the fundamental challenges facing the American housing market. I applaud Ranking Member McHenry’s leadership and interest in prioritizing this important issue. I look forward to working with him, our Congressional colleagues, and the administration to pass meaningful reforms that protect taxpayers and strengthen the dream of owning a home.” Background: The Department of the Treasury Housing Reform Plan can be found HERE. |
