FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. - Rep. French Hill, R-Arkansas, visited with Faulkner County flood victims on Thursday, officials say. Together with Faulkner County Judge Jim Baker, the congressman spoke with residents of the Treasure Hills subdivision. Residents said that the frequency of floods has increased over the last couple decades, and multiple factors are causing the rising waters. They said changes in the floodplain and Arkansas River navigation system have consistently caused a nearby creek to overflow into the neighborhood. After the meeting, Baker said, "Congressman Hill cares about people that have been affected by the flood. He personally visited the Treasure Hills area and listened to the residents’ concerns this morning.” Residents told the officials they wanted a permanent fix to the flooding, noting that the problem has existed since the early 90s and has caused a "sharp" rise in their flood insurance rates. Hill said, "Judge Baker and I will continue working on behalf of the people of Treasure Hills. The families in this community shouldn’t have to live in fear of damaging flooding every time we experience heavy rain." |
