Little Rock Port Authority gets more than $6M for new dock, improvements

The Little Rock Port Authority has been given more than $6 million as part of a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant.

The TIGER grant will be used for the Little Rock Port Authority Growth Initiative for improvements, including a new dock and a new rail storage.

Congressman French Hill (AR-2) and Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola were out Monday as part of the announcement that they say will help keep the port competitive for years to come and meet the needs of existing and future prospects.

"We handle now over 14,500 railroad cars and now we will be able to greatly amplify that from an economic prosperity standpoint," said Stodola.

"So in the future we will be easily able to handle containers, we'll be easily able to handle liquids, we'll be easily able to handle grain and other agriculture products. Things that we can do now but not very well." said Bryan Day, executive director of the Little Rock Port Authority.
