RELEASE: REP. HILL PROTECTS THE PERSONAL RIGHTS OF CENTRAL ARKANSANS AND AMERICANS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. French Hill (AR-02) today released the following statement after he voted to protect the privacy of Americans by prohibiting the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the United States.

“My vote today was to protect central Arkansans and Americans from overreach by the federal government. I am fervently opposed to a government controlled Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) because it could weaponize the American dollar by tracking and controlling how and where Americans spend their money. The federal government has no right to watch your every move, which is why I was proud to support the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act today. Americans should have the freedom to spend their money how they want without being surveilled – and that means no CBDC. I thank Majority Whip Tom Emmer for his leadership and collaboration on this bill and applaud its important passage in the House.”

Further Background:

H.R. 5403 - CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act: This bill would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution states that only Congress has the authority to coin money and regulate the value of such money.
