RELEASE: REP. HILL STATEMENT ON FORMER SPEAKER KEVIN MCCARTHY'S RETIREMENT
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
December 6, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) today released the following statement after Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced he is retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives after serving nearly two decades in Congress:
“It has been an honor to serve alongside Kevin McCarthy for the past nine years. Speaker McCarthy’s legacy will be one of courage, leadership, and devotion to the nation. I was proud to nominate him for Speaker in January 2023, and his accomplishments – including helping House Republicans regain the majority in the House and negotiating a historic debt ceiling deal that cut spending levels – delivered on our conservative promises in our Commitment to America and set our nation on a path to fiscal health.
"I thank my friend Kevin for his two decades of selfless service to the institution and congratulate him on his retirement from dedicated public service to the people of California’s Twentieth Congressional District. I wish Kevin, Judy, and their family all the best in this next chapter of their lives.”
