RELEASE: REP. HILL STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF CONTINUING RESOLUTION
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
October 1, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement after House Republicans passed H.R. 5860, the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 and Other Extensions Act.
“For weeks, I have worked tirelessly with my Republican colleagues in the House to pass our 2024 spending bills. We have passed over 70% of all funding, whereas the Senate has passed zero. Our bills have serious spending cuts, with some that are below pre-pandemic levels, and include conservative policies that reverse the far-left policies of President Biden and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
"On Friday, we tried to pass a 30-day stopgap funding bill that would fully secure our southwest border and reform broken immigration rules, which I supported. Unfortunately, all House Democrats voted no along with 21 other House Republicans. It is neither conservative policy nor smart to shut the government down while we finish our work and is an outrage to not pay our troops or our Border Patrol agents while we debate legislation.
"Yesterday, we passed a 45-day stopgap spending bill that gives us time to lock in critical conservative spending cuts and policies. I stand ready with my Republican colleagues to finish the remaining spending through the House Appropriations Committee and across the House Floor.”
