RELEASE: REP. HILL’S MEDAL OF HONOR PROVISION YIELDS FIRST AWARDEE IN 2024 NDAA
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
July 14, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) today released the following statement after voting in support of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024 to support our military personnel and families, strengthen our defense capabilities, and deter our foreign adversaries:
“My vote today was on behalf of the brave and selfless service members and families of Little Rock Air Force Base, the Arkansas National Guard, and our military nationwide whose profound sacrifices keep our nation safe. Ensuring our troops are taken care of is one of my most important jobs as a member of Congress. Recently, I traveled to the Middle East to assess our efforts to counter terrorism by actors like ISIS and state sponsors like Iran and their Shia Militia units. I was pleased my colleagues included my amendment in the NDAA that increases critical oversight of the threats Iran poses.
“This year’s NDAA also awards Private Marcelino Serna with an upgrade to the Medal of Honor made possible by my World War I Valor Medals Review Act which became law in 2019. My bill established the WWI Medal Review Project to recommend upgrades where discrimination is suspected, and I am hopeful this is the first of many to come.”
Further Background:
H.R. 2670 – National Defense Authorization Act: The Fiscal Year 2024 NDAA includes important provisions that will positively impact our service members in central Arkansas, including a 5.2 percent pay increase for our brave men and women in uniform – the largest pay increase in over 20 years. This legislation represents many fiscally conservative values, including strengthening our strategic defense, countering the Chinese Communist Party’s growing aggression, and more.
