RELEASE: REPS. HILL, SMITH URGE PRESIDENT BIDEN TO STRONGLY REITERATE THE UNITED STATES’ COMMITMENT TO INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. French Hill (AR-02) and Chris Smith (NJ-04), Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations, today sent a letter to President Biden urging the U.S. Presidential Delegation to Nigeria strongly reiterate the United States’ commitment to international religious freedom and address the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria.

“The egregious violence and persecution against Christians in Nigeria still continues today. Just three years ago, Nigeria was a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). Despite little having changed in Nigeria’s treatment of religious freedom since then, the Biden Administration continues to leave Nigeria off the CPC list,” said Rep. Hill. “Next week, while a U.S. Presidential Delegation is in Nigeria, I strongly urge the delegation to reiterate to the Nigerian government our steadfast commitment to international religious freedom - we must make it clear that the U.S. government condemns what is happening in Nigeria.”
