RELEASE: REP. HILL CONTINUES TO SUPPORT BILLS TO COMBAT THE FENTANYL CRISIS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. French Hill (AR-02) today released the following statement after House Republicans passed multiple pieces of legislation that combat the fentanyl crisis and other illicit drugs plaguing our nation.

“Over the past decade, opioids, like fentanyl, have devastated our nation and led to skyrocketing overdoses and deaths. I have heard countless stories from central Arkansans who are heartbroken over lost loved ones due to the opioid crisis.

“As a member of Congress and someone who has also lost too many young friends to overdoses, I have worked tirelessly to address this crisis. Two of my bills, the Fentanyl Sanctions Act and Preventing Overdoses and Saving Lives Act 2.0, were previously signed into law. These bills combat the international trafficking of opioids, sanction drug manufacturers in China, and encourage co-prescription from doctors that will increase civilian access to life-saving drugs, such as Naloxone.

“This week, I was proud to support the HALT Fentanyl Act and Preventing the Financing of Illegal Synthetic Drugs Act, which would protect Americans from deadly fentanyl that continues to rush across our southwest border. I will continue to work hard in Congress to target the bad actors responsible for the illegal trafficking of fentanyl into the United States and fight the fentanyl crisis.”

Further Background:

  • H.R. 467 – HALT Fentanyl Act: This bill would make permanent the capabilities necessary for law enforcement to keep opioids, such as fentanyl, off our streets.
