RELEASE: REP. HILL SUPPORTS BILLS TO COMBAT THE THREAT OF THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY DURING HOUSE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE ACTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today supported multiple pieces of legislation that combat the threat of the Chinese Communist Party during committee markup.
“Today, I was proud to support multiple bills that passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee which counter the aggression of the Chinese Communist Party. It is critical that the United States has an effective strategy to defend our homeland and our global commerce and security interests against the CCP's military, technology, and economic actions that threaten the region and the international order. The United States, along with our allies around the world, must be engaged in the system of multilateral institutions as we confront this geopolitical challenge head on.”

H.R. 1189 - The Undersea Cable Control Act: This bill requires the President, through the Secretary of State, to develop a strategy to eliminate the availability to foreign adversaries of goods and technologies capable of supporting undersea cables.
H.R. 1107 - PRC is Not a Developing Country Act: This bill directs the Secretary of State to take certain actions with respect to the labeling of the People’s Republic of China as a developing country.

H.R. 1151 - The Upholding Sovereignty of Airspace (USA) Act: This bill holds the People’s Republic of China accountable for the violation of United States airspace and sovereignty with its high-altitude surveillance balloon. It includes 11 findings and senses of Congress.
H.R. 406 - Providing Appropriate Recognition and Treatment Needed to Enhance Relations (PARTNER) with ASEAN Act: To provide for the treatment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as an international organization for purposes of the International Organizations Immunities Act.
H.R. 1149 - Countering Untrusted Telecommunications Abroad Act: This bill establishes certain reporting and other requirements relating to telecommunications equipment and services produced or provided by Chinese entities, ie Huawei and ZTE.
H.R. 1153 - Deterring America’s Technological Adversaries (DATA) Act: This bill provides a clarification of non-applicability for regulation and prohibition relating to sensitive personal data under International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
