RELEASE: REP. HILL STATEMENT ON LATEST STOP-GAP GOVERNMENT SPENDING BILL
Washington, DC,
September 30, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement today after voting against H.R. 6833, the Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023: “Here we are once again at the 11th hour voting on yet another temporary government spending bill. This is not a “clean” Continuing Resolution. It contains new spending and new policy that were not developed by our bipartisan Appropriations Committee process,” said Rep. Hill.” For those members who show up to debate and vote, this bill is just a hurry-up-and-get-out-of-town exercise rather than putting pen to paper to do the work of the American people putting funding where it’s needed – like stopping the flow of fentanyl across an unsecured southern border, ensuring small businesses have access to capital, and increasing access to job training. Democrats are turning a blind eye to the central Arkansans struggling under the burden of increased costs for everyday items – gas to get to work, groceries for their families and school supplies – a crisis created by their own spending policies. I am an ardent supporter of funding for Ukraine’s defense, and I am disappointed that it was wrapped up in this package without needed additional accountability mechanisms.” |
