RELEASE: Rep. Hill Votes to Strengthen C-130s, Bolster National Defense, and Support Allies Around the Globe
WASHINGTON, D.C. ,
March 9, 2022
Rep. French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement after voting yes on the Security Division of the Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2022 and no on the non-Security Division of the Consolidated Appropriations Act. “Once again, House Democrats left funding the federal government to the last minute – severely impairing not only the ability of federal agencies to plan and adapt but the key role of Congress as the holder of the power of the purse. I voted for the security portion of this bill because, at the end of the day, it’s Congress’ duty to provide for the common defense, and the bill included not only increased funding for C-130 aircraft upgrades at Little Rock Air Force Base but also a 2.7% pay raise for our brave women and men in uniform. It also included critical funding for our allies including Israel for their continued defense and, importantly, Ukraine whose leaders and people are bravely standing up against Putin’s illegal and barbaric war. “However, I could not in good conscience support the non-security portion of the bill because it reflects more of the same of Democrats’ spending spree over the last year that has fueled inflation. Congress needs to get back to regular order when funding the government because the American taxpayer is not served by the Democrats’ midnight specials that include all manner of unnecessary programs.” |
