  • Asahi Pompey, Partner, Global Head of Corporate Engagement &President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, Goldman Sachs;
  • Dr. Roderick L. Smothers, Sr., President, Philander Smith College;
  • Dr. Carlos Clark, President, Arkansas Baptist College;
  • O. Jerome Green, President, Shorter College; and

“Arkansas is home to four tremendous HBCUs, and I wanted to have an important and timely conversation about how philanthropy, businesses, and HBCUs can work together to increase opportunities for students and employers alike,” said Rep. Hill. “Prioritizing our HBCUs has been an important priority for me, even before I came to Congress, and I hope today’s summit will serve as a steppingstone toward bolstering our communities and schools and providing our students the opportunity to thrive. I thank my friend Rep. Alma Adams for making the trip to Little Rock to participate in today’s summit. And thanks, too, to our four local HBCU presidents and our keynote speaker, Asahi Pompey, president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation.”

“I want to thank my esteemed Co-Chair of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, Representative Hill, for inviting me to participate in today’s HBCU summit. I appreciate the partnership that French and I have cultivated during our time leading our bipartisan, bicameral caucus,” said Congresswoman Adams, founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus. “Events like this demonstrate the power of partnerships, which are key to building success for HBCUs, from student residence halls all the way to the halls of Congress. Thank you to our hosts from Philander Smith College, our HBCU presidents, and leaders from Microsoft, the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Regions Bank, and Baptist Health for demonstrating their commitment to building a pipeline directly from HBCUs to great jobs in the workforce. By partnering across the aisle and across industries and sectors, the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus was able to introduce a transformative bill for historically Black colleges and universities: the IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act. French and I will continue to work together to get this bill across the finish line and lead the charge for our schools.”

French and I will continue to work together to get this bill across the finish line and lead the charge for our schools,” Adams concluded. “Goldman Sachs is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion through action and accountability, and central to that strategy is continued investment in Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” said Asahi Pompey, Global Head of Corporate Engagement and President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. “That’s why we launched the HBCU Market Madness initiative last year, a $25 million investment in HBCUs, as well as our plan to double the number of HBCU campus hires by 2025. HBCUs produce some of our country’s most impressive leaders, and our strong partnership with these institutions will help develop the pipeline of talent we need today and the leaders of tomorrow.”
