RELEASE: Rep. French Hill: “President Biden’s actions do not match his words”
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
September 21, 2021
Rep. French Hill (AR-02), one of two Congressional Representatives to the 76th U.N. General Assembly, issued the following statement after President Biden’s speech to the UN General Assembly: “President Biden wants the United States to lead when it comes to establishing international norms and rules, but his actions do not match his words. While I agree engaging with all countries is imperative to avoid pandemics, wars, and the ills of poverty and human rights violations, it must be done in a way that advances the interests of the United States and our allies around the world. If we are looking at rejoining flawed U.N. agencies like the U.N. Human Rights Council and the World Health Organization, then we need to ensure that the member states do not behave in ways that contradict the very mission of these agencies. Grand overtures and misplaced promises should not define U.S. leadership because leadership starts with holding our adversaries accountable, strengthening the bonds we share with our allies, and advocating for democratic institutions and ideals globally.” |
