Rep. French Hill Votes Against House Democrats’ Latest Attempt to Incentivize Illegal Border Crossings

Washington, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement today after voting against House Democrats’ most recent attempt to incentivize illegal immigration – H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021:

“As the Biden border crisis continues to rage at the U.S.- Mexico border, and amid a global pandemic, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are intent on providing a pathway to citizenship for those that have crossed the border illegally,” said Rep. Hill. “This bill provides a green light to the hundreds of thousands of migrants thinking about unlawfully crossing the border because they will see that there are no consequences if they break our laws. In addition to providing amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, the bill would cost U.S. taxpayers billions, result in more family separations, and further decrease safety and security along the border.

“During my six visits to our southern border, I have seen these ill-designed policies like catch and release in action. America is a country of immigrants, but if House Democrats and the Biden Administration truly cared about the well-being of migrants and Americans alike, they would work across the aisle to enact meaningful immigration proposals, instead of legislation that is more likely to die in the Senate than become law. President Biden has said so himself. I have long supported reforming our immigration policy and treating those who come to America for a better life with compassion, while finding a solution for DREAMERS. However, this bill is simply a messaging bill and not thoughtful, responsible policy.”
