Hill Hails Supreme Court Ruling to Support Community Pharmacies, Lower Health Care Costs

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, after the United State Supreme Court rules unanimously to reinstate an Arkansas law to allow the state ensure pharmacy benefit managers (PBM) do not pay less than wholesale rates to community pharmacies, Rep. French Hill (AR-02) released the following statement: “I am pleased with the Supreme Court’s ruling to support the commonsense approach of Arkansas and the 45 states that joined our state. This is a major victory for Arkansas consumers who deserve access to lower health care prices and independent pharmacists because it will help ensure they are fairly reimbursed and will help keep the doors open at these community facilities that provide to the community so much more than prescriptions." PBMs process prescription drug claims and then reimburse the pharmacies. The Arkansas legislature passed this law because they noted that often community and independent pharmacies were receiving low reimbursement rates for generic drugs, causing many independent, rural pharmacies to close. This case, led by Arkansas, and in partnership with 45 other states, the District of Columbia, and the Trump Administration, is a significant step towards lowering prescription drug prices and supporting independent pharmacies. |
