KEO, Ark. - One group of birds are causing major problems to the tune of millions of dollars for fish farmers in Arkansas and across the south. They're called Cormorants and farmers said they're eating fish straight from ponds and eating out of farmer's pocket books. "We're the largest producer of hybrid striped bass in the world we ship fish to Taiwan, Israel and other countries," said Farmer Mike Freeze. For more than 30 years, Freeze has been co-owner at Keo Fish Farms. Farming close to 130 million fish per year. But this year, his livelihood he said is in jeopardy. "Our economic survival is dependent on protecting crop from predators especially avian predators," said Freeze. Click here to read more. |
