Arkansas leaders remember Memorial Day

Many Arkansas leaders are observing the Memorial Day holiday, releasing statements in recognition of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton said the following:
Every Memorial Day, I’m reminded of my time as a funeral escort in the Army’s Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery, accompanying fallen comrades to a final resting place in those rolling hills. We rehearsed funerals well in advance, sometimes for days, because we wanted those men and women—and their loved ones—to receive one last, perfect moment of honor.
Memorial Day allows our whole country to share in those moments of honor and consolation. We remember the many brave Americans who loved their country and fellow citizens so deeply that they were willing to die for them. Contemplating the weight of their sacrifice fills us with great solemnity. But we also ought to feel a rush of conviction to emulate their service by preserving our nation and making it better, however, we can.

Representative French Hill tweeted, "You may be at a barbecue or headed out to the lake...But the important thing is that we recognize those who lost their lives for us, to preserve our freedoms here in the United States."

Governor Asa Hutchinson also tweeted saying, " May we never forget those who have given their lives in the line of duty."

Senator John Boozman said," We remember and honor those who died defending our nation. These heroes sacrificed their very lives to keep America safe, free and the greatest country on earth..."

Representative Steve Womack shared the following message from Marty Shell of Five Rivers Distribution

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge offered her prayers and appreciation to the families of Arkansas's fallen soldiers.
