Rep. Hill on Hand for Little Rock Air Base Cyber Squadron Activation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Sunday, Congressman French Hill (AR-02) attended a ceremony at the Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB), activating the new cyber command, the 223rd Cyberspace Operations Squadron, which was activated and re-designated from the 223rd Combat Communications Squadron. Following the ceremony, Congressman Hill released the following statement:

“Today marked the culmination of four years of work to ensure that the Little Rock Air Base continues to fill the critical role of cyber training for the U.S. Air Force. This squadron would not be here today without the hard work to preserve the Air Base’s SCIF, which is critical for the many classified missions at the base. I’m proud to have played a part, along with my Arkansas colleagues, to see that our Air Base continues to be one of the most technologically advanced and well-run military installations in the world.”

Background:

On June 25, 2015, the Arkansas Congressional Delegation wrote to former National Guard Bureau Chief, General Frank Grass, in support of keeping the Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Facility (SCIF) maintained within building 310 at LRAFB. That letter can be found HERE.

A SCIF is a U.S. Department of Defense term for a secure room. It can be a secure room or data center that guards against electronic surveillance and suppresses data leakage of sensitive security and military information.
