Congressman French Hill (AR-02) made the following statement after the House Natural Resources Committee adopted his bill, the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Boundary Modification Act:

“This September, we will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Little Rock Nine and their brave role in the fight for equality. This bill will ensure the proper historical preservation of this living monument to the civil rights movement in Arkansas and the United States. I thank Chairman Rob Bishop, Chairman Tom McClintock, and the Natural Resources Committee staff for their timely work in moving this bill and taking us one step closer to passing it in time for the milestone anniversary.”

Additional Background:

Last month, Congressman French Hill (R-Arkansas) and Congressman John Lewis (D-Georgia), along with Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), introduced legislation that would expand the boundaries of the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. This expansion would mean seven homes located near Little Rock Central High School would be included in the school’s national historic site designation and preserved by the National Park Service (NPS).
