World War II veteran Jesse Whitley lived off his monthly pension of about $1,500 from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs until that money disappeared without notice several months ago. It was being garnished because of a clerical error, according to records reviewed by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
