Local man earns Eagle Scout award

Boy Scout Troop 152 of Clinton, announces Eagle Court of Honor for Grant McMurry. Congressman James French Hill of Arkansas’s 2nd District will present McMurry his Eagle Scout award, December 3, 6 p.m. at Clinton First Assembly of God Church, 2466 Hwy. 65 North, Clinton.

The Eagle Scout Badge is the highest youth award which may be earned by a member of the Boy Scouting program.

Eagle Scout candidate Grant McMurry earned 27 merit badges. McMurray is the son of Frank and Suzanne McMurry. McMurray graduated from Clinton High School, with high honors, third in class. McMurray attended Boy’s State, where he served as Judge on the District Court of Appeals. McMurray is a freshman, currently attending Arkansas Tech in Russellville, majoring in Emergency Management. McMurray is a member of Arkansas Tech Band of distinction, and International Association of Emergency Managers, student chapter, at Arkansas Tech.

McMurray has served as SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, PL and is a brotherhood member of the OA. McMurray currently volunteers as a firefighter with two Fire Departments: Burnt Ridge and Dover. McMurray also serves as a member of Van Buren County Rescue Squad. McMurray is very actively involved in all aspects of the church. McMurray has played the drums, guitar and sang on the church’s Praise Team. McMurray currently serves as staff for youth at Russellville First Assembly of God. McMurray currently serves as ASM with Troop 152.

From Scout literature: “The presentation of the Eagle Scout badge is an important and serious event, the climax and the goal for which a Scout works many years, an occasion for pride and joy, a time for serious contemplation. It is the culmination of efforts of the various leaders of this Scout. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest and most coveted rank in Scouting; the last major step in the advancement program. Fewer than four percent of all Scouts in the United States reach the Eagle Scout rank.”
