Find a Shelter:
If you have been evacuated and need a place to stay during the ongoing crisis, there are currently two Red Cross shelters open in Conway County:
One in the Don Owens Center, 10 Lower Ridge Road, Conway, AR (location includes a temporary pet shelter provided by the Faulkner County Animal Response Team) and another at the Evangel Temple, 1110 South 12 Street, Fort Smith, AR.
Identification is NOT required to be admitted to a Red Cross shelter. Anyone who needs to find a shelter may visit redcross.org/shelter or call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Emergency Pet Assistance:
If you need help with your pets on a short term basis, you can email the Humane Society of Pulaski County at emergencyresponse@warmhearts.org or call (501) 227-6166. They will do their best to match you up with a foster home that can help. Please note that this is for owned pets only, and the goal is to provide relief to owned pets (primarily cats and dogs) on a short term basis.
The Humane Society of Pulaski County is also compiling a list of emergency fosters, persons and/or families willing to take an owned animal into their home until their owners are able to reclaim it. If you would like to help a neighbor-in-need, you can complete the application to become an Emergency Foster to a displaced pet HERE.

The following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Donald J. Trump‘s emergency disaster declaration issued for the state of Arkansas.
Assistance for State and affected Local Governments can include as required:
- FEMA is authorized to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, to save lives, to protect property, public health and safety, and lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the designated areas.
- Specifically FEMA is authorized to provide assistance for emergency protective measures (Category B), limited to direct federal assistance under the Public Assistance program, at 75 percent federal funding in Arkansas, Chicot, Conway, Crawford, Desha, Faulkner, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Lincoln, Logan, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Sebastian, and Yell counties.
How You can Assist with Response and Recovery Efforts:
Individuals and families are encouraged to donate the following items:
- clothing for a few days
- bedding
- toiletries
- essential medication
- a child’s stuffed animal, blanket or other items for children

Anyone wishing to volunteer should bring a shovel if they have one and work gloves.
There are also two self-filling stations set up for residents to walk up and fill whatever amount of sand bags they need at:
