Dear Friends,

Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution reads, “The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of Impeachment.”

The Speaker of the House does not have the sole power of impeachment– the House of Representatives does. Modern precedent clearly sets out a process for a fair consideration of impeachment.

It was followed by both parties in the majority, Democrats in the case of President Nixon and Republicans in the case of President Clinton.

The Speaker has turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to fairness and precedent. Authoritarianism is now the rule of the People’s House.

A star chamber hidden away in the basement of the U.S. Capitol Building is the domain of authoritarians--where due process and transparency along with the ability to confront accusers and the separation of prosecution and grand jury have been abandoned.

Abandoned by our Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.

I call on the Democratic majority to put partisanship and pointless attacks aside and get back to the real work that will move this country forward.

Click on the picture below to watch my remarks from the House floor speaking out in opposition to Speaker Pelosi's so-called "impeachment inquiry."

Sincerely,
Representative French Hill
