Dear Friend,

I write to you with good news that my bill to protect your family’s safety just passed the House without objection and is now being considered by the Senate.

I first introduced H.R. 3146, the Securing America’s Vaccines for Emergencies (SAVE) Act in response to not only the shortage in medical supplies across America at the start of the pandemic last year but also because it became increasingly apparent that we are too reliant upon unfriendly nations – like China – for our critical medical supplies.

I acted swiftly because protecting Americans is my number one priority.

Specifically, my bill, introduced immediately in March 2020, amends the Defense Production Act (DPA) to protect medical supplies by bolstering our supply chain during times of crisis.

It does this by:

  • Requiring the president to create a strategy on securing medical supply chains, including for drugs critical to our keeping Americans safe and healthy.
  • Clarifying that the president may provide incentives to ensure the availability of these medical supplies.
  • Outlining that the president should use DPA authorities to ensure the availability of medical supplies essential to national defense – specifically as it relates to securing our supply chains.

The first step is protecting our existing medical supply chains. America can’t be vulnerable again.  And, the second step to ensure that America’s critical medical supply is diverse and not dependent on countries that wish to do us harm or not have our best interests.

I invite you listen to my speech on the House floor in support of this bill.

Sincerely,
Representative French Hill
