September was National Recovery Month and last week, I joined my colleagues to wear purple and show support for families in central Arkansas who face the struggles that come with substance abuse.
Addiction is a disease and with terrible consequences for our families.
Early last month, I introduced the Preventing Overdoses and Saving Lives Act. This bill will create a grant program to allow states and localities to conduct research on the opioid crisis, create a strategic plan on their response to the crisis, and implement co-prescribing in their jurisdiction.
Co-prescribing saves lives – every opioid prescription comes with an opioid reversal drug. Having seen first-hand the success co-prescribing in Arkansas, I wanted to take that to the national level.
I know this bill will be a valuable tool in the fight against addiction and help pave the way towards recovery.
