Dear Friends,
I was honored to welcome Dr. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress and American’s Librarian, to central Arkansas this week. Dr. Hayden was joined by her mother, Colleen, who was born in Helena. We visited many important historic sites together and enjoyed our time with librarians and educators from across the state. Here are some highlights of our visit.
Governor Asa Hutchinson. We kicked off Friday morning spending time with Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas State Librarian, Carolyn Ashcraft.
Historic Arkansas Museum
My good friend and Director of the Historic Arkansas Museum, Swannee Bennett, provided a journey through Arkansas history. Dr. Hayden commented that “the museum does a wonderful job showcasing Arkansas’s historic frontier days to its vibrant modern life today,” and I couldn't agree more.
William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum
Nearly 100 librarians and educators from across Arkansas were on hand for a fireside chat about the Library of Congress resources available to them. Sen. John Boozman presented Dr. Hayden with the Arkansas Traveler Award.
William F. Laman Public Library
What a delight to be the readers at the summer reading program, and Dr. Hayden enjoyed seeing a fine central Arkansas library.
Little Rock Central High School
I was proud to introduce Dr. Hayden to the rich history and deep historical significance of Central High School. We appreciated David and Jodi from the National Park Service for sharing the story of Central.
Thank you for taking time to keep up with the work I'm doing on your behalf.
Sincerely,
Representative French Hill
