Dear Friends,
BIG NEWS: The United States economy added 304,000 jobs in the first month of 2019.
The January Jobs Report smashed expectations and signals that our economy is still expanding. Hiring and wage growth are continuing at a strong pace which has led to the 100th straight month of employment gains. This is welcome news for Arkansans, especially those who are actively seeking jobs.
This Tuesday: State of the Union Address
On Tuesday, the president delivers his State of the Union address. This tradition dates all the way back to George Washington and serves as an opportunity to bring together all three branches of government and allows the president to speak directly to the American people. But more importantly, let me hear from YOU. What do you hope to hear the president talk about in his speech? Click HERE to contact me directly with your thoughts.
Personally, I hope the president will address the future of our Nation and outline the way forward on homeland security, pending trade negotiations, and increasing economic growth. These are important policies that will impact all Arkansans. Tune in at 8:00 PM CT this Tuesday night.
Fighting for Release of American Held in Syria
This past week, I reached out to President Trump requesting his support in bringing Majd Kamalmaz safely home from Syria. Mr. Kamalmaz is an American being unjustly held by the government of Syrian dictator, Bashar al-Assad.
In February 2017, Majd was detained by Syrian police while visiting the country for the funeral of his father-in-law. Majd’s personal motto is "be in peace," and that motto has been on display throughout his life with his work to help disaster victims in places like Kosovo, Indonesia, Lebanon, and the Southern United States after Hurricane Katrina. Click HERE or on the picture above to watch my remarks calling on the president to do what he can to ensure Majd Kamalmaz is safely returned home.
Never Forget: International Holocaust Remembrance Day
"FOREVER LET THIS PLACE BE A CRY OF DESPAIR AND A WARNING TO HUMANITY, WHERE THE NAZIS MURDERED ABOUT ONE AND A HALF MILLION MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN MAINLY JEWS FROM VARIOUS COUNTRIES OF EUROPE." -Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Plaque
I will never forget reading those words as I walked through the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps last year (pictured below). I pray that the world never forgets the atrocities committed against the Jewish people during the Holocaust. I pray we also remember the bravery of the Allied Forces as they took back Europe and rid the world of Nazi Germany. This past week, people around the world honored International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
