Wishing 102-Year-Old WWII Veteran and COVID-19 Survivor a happy birthday

Presenting SSG Jones With An American Flag in Celebration

WWII veteran and COVID-19 survivor SSG John W. Jones (ret.) celebrated his 102nd birthday yesterday.

SSG Jones served in the Army, Company G, 184th infantry, and completed many campaigns including Aleutian Islands, Eastern Mandates, and the battle of Okinawa before he was wounded in combat in 1945. John received numerous medals and awards for his service, including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart.

Recently, I honored a true American patriot before the U.S. House of Representatives.

I was also proud to give this American hero an early birthday present by presenting him with an American flag flown over Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan which his son, Mr. Donald Jones, accepted on his behalf.

I am glad that KATV Channel 7 recognized this true American hero. To watch the full segment, click HERE or on the image below.

⁣Please join me in wishing SSG. Jones a very happy 102nd birthday!

Arkansas Reopening Again

Plans for State Capitol Building and Public Libraries

I am proud that our state has come together to begin reopening safely and like many of you am looking forward to a return to normalcy.

I wanted to share with you some good news on that front.

The Central Arkansas Library System is set to reopen in phases

Since mid-March the library system's 15 locations have been closed to the public, but they will begin slowing allowing visitors beginning June 8th.

Four libraries will be open starting Monday, June 8th: the Max Milam Library in Perryville, the Esther DeWitt Nixon Library in Jacksonville, the Oley E. Rooker Library in Little Rock, and the John Gould Fletcher Library in Little Rock.

They will be open with a limited capacity three days a week and will be taking reservations.
