Dear Friends,
This past Friday, the president took an important step towards ending the government shutdown that has affected families in Arkansas and across the nation. Congress is acting swiftly to make whole the federal workers who have missed their paychecks.
The president gave Democratic leadership what they have been asking for; now it is time for them to come to the table and join Republicans in protecting our southwest border.
Shutting down the government should never be a solution to a political problem, and I am confident that the president and members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, will find a practical solution that will protect Arkansas families and secure our southwest border.
This should include continuing the 25-year policy of building a physical barrier where needed, upgrading our screening and surveillance technology, and increasing border agents and immigration judges.
Celebrating the Dream of Martin Luther King Jr.
The very first line of the U.S. Constitution establishes the revolutionary idea that Americans believe in forming a more perfect Union. No one has done more to achieve this goal than Martin Luther King Jr. Now more than ever, his dream of a country united by equality and justice for all should be our moral compass.
Honoring MLK's memory with friends and leaders in Arkansas was an excellent way to start my week. Check out some of the pictures below.

Leading the House of Representatives in Reading the U.S. Constitution

Click on the picture above to watch Rep. Hill read the preamble of the U.S. Constitution on the House floor. |
Too often, people forget that the foundation of our great Republic comes from the U.S. Constitution. So this week, I led the House of Representatives in reading the full text of the Constitution for everyone to hear.
It is one of the single greatest documents ever written and I encourage all of you to join me in reading it HERE.
General Assembly Must Seize Opportunity, Revive Low-Income Areas
Take a minute to check out my latest op-ed in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette HERE.
I'm calling on the Arkansas General Assembly to seize the opportunity to pass legislation that would provide state-level tax incentives and benefits further spurring investment, job creation, and economic revitalization in our local communities. This legislation would compliment the powerful federal incentives created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
Reforming our tax code created a unique opportunity for Arkansas to have an influx of private capital that we otherwise would not be able to secure. I want to ensure we are doing everything within our power to successfully revitalize communities within our state.
Golden Fleece Award: Calling Out Government Waste
Government waste is an issue that impacts every taxpayer in Arkansas and across the nation. As your Representative, I'm fighting to ensure the responsible use of government resources and calling out examples of egregious waste, fraud, and abuse.
Therefore, I have named 2019's first Golden Fleece award winner: the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for allowing over $9 billion in extra payments to insurers from 2006 to 2015. Click HERE to learn more.
Thank you for taking time to keep up with the work I'm doing on your behalf. If I can be of any assistance to you or your family, please reach out to my office at (501) 324-5941 or Hill.House.Gov.
