Dear Friends,

Today is Arkansas Drug Take Back Day, and we must continue working together to combat the current prescription drug and opioid crisis. Every ten months, overdoses kill as many Americans as in the 15 years of the Vietnam War. This is an absolute tragedy. But there's hope, and help is on the way.

Drug Take Back Day
At the University of Arkansas Little Rock Police Department, one of the collection sites, I talk about local and national wins for Arkansans. Listen here. Our state received $13 million in grants from our recent $1 billion in Congressionally approved funds to help counter the opioid crisis. I strongly supported these efforts in Congress. It’s critical that we take steps like turning in our unused medications and do our part to help.

I am grateful for the statewide leadership in combating the epidemic by Governor Hutchinson, Lieutenant Governor Griffin, Attorney General Rutledge, and State Drug Director Kirk Lane. For more information on Arkansas collection sites and recovery centers, along with how you can help, click here.

Giving Hope to Arkansas Families
On Wednesday, we marked our successful progress with the president signing into law a comprehensive opioid bill that includes nearly 60 individual pieces of legislation we passed in the House this year with my support. We are taking significant steps to provide Arkansans and Americans with the help they need. Read more here.

Visiting North Little Rock's Union Pacific
Brandon and Kyle (pictured above) showed me around Union Pacific Railroad (UP) and Jenks Shop in North Little Rock. Did you know that every 10 years or 1,000,000 miles, UP completely overhauls their trains? They took me through the process their trains go through to keep their machinery up to their high standards.

I was also proud to visit the hardworking, incredibly skilled team at the Jenks Shop while I was there. This is an important locomotive shop on the UP system. It was great to see fresh paint on the 4141 train, which is named after our 41st President, George H.W. Bush.

Preserving the Natural State
As an avid outdoorsman, I was delighted to join Ray Tucker and Bryan Hendricks' show, Arkansas Outdoors on 103.7 the Buzz, to discuss Congressional efforts to promote wildlife conservation in the Natural State. I'm taking action to preserve and expand the Flatside Wilderness, protect the long-term health of our state's iconic Buffalo National River, and establish a lasting fund to reduce the maintenance back log at the National Park Service. Serving our Communities
I enjoyed being a part of Arkansas AmeriCorps' Opening Ceremony this week. It's always good to be with my dear friend, Sanford Tollette, and the Pfeiffer Kiwanis Camp kids. The room was full of excited young Arkansans ready to start or continue their national service through the various AmeriCorps programs in our state. Serving others is the key to building strong communities. I'm wishing those who took their oath of service best wishes on their new adventures.

Thank you for taking time to keep up with the work I'm doing on your behalf. If I can be any assistance to you or your family, please reach out to my office at (501) 324-5941 or Hill.House.Gov

Sincerely,

Representative French Hill
