U.S. Congressman French Hill
Dear Friends,

This past week was National Police Week and I can’t say thank you enough to those in uniform on the front lines, protecting our families and communities.

My team and I visited each of central Arkansas’s seven counties last week and featured a different county each day - thanking and honoring our policemen and policewoman for their selfless service. It’s inspiring to hear their stories and get insight into all they do to keep our families and communities safe.

In the House, we paid our respects to our law enforcement by passing six bills to honor their sacrifices and ensure those who harm our officers are brought to justice. Some of these bills would help Arkansans in particular are:

The Protect and Serve Act, which provides a significant deterrent for those seeking to attack our police by creating federal penalties for individuals who deliberately target local, state, or federal law enforcement officers with violence.

• The Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Correctional Officer Self-Protection Act, which allows correctional officers to store firearms in lockers on prison grounds to protect themselves to and from work.

Last week, I was proud to support the VA MISSION Act, which passed overwhelming in the House by 347 to 70, because America’s veterans deserve to know that delivering timely and quality care for our veterans is non-negotiable. This bill builds upon the VA Accountability Act passed by the House last year.

I know how hard my three Arkansas-based veteran’s caseworkers, themselves combat veterans, have worked to cut through VA red tape to deliver over $2 million for central Arkansas’s veterans just this year. This measure will make their jobs a bit easier and allow our team to help even more veterans.

I was proud to take my support for Arkansas’s veterans to Veterans’ Committee where I testified on Wednesday about the VA’s Choice Program ‘40-mile rule’ and what improvements must be made to ease the burden for Arkansas’s veterans. I was pleased to see the improvements that I suggested included in the final bill that passed.

After testifying, I sent a letter to House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Phil Roe (R-TN) and Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN), reiterating that central Arkansas is home to over 50,000 veterans, including many who currently serve or previously served at the Little Rock Air Force Base and Camp Robinson. I have also heard these service members voice the difficulties they’ve experienced with the ‘40-mile rule,' and I will continue advocating for better care on their behalf.

Thank you for taking time to keep up with the work I'm doing on your behalf. If I can be any assistance to you or your family, please reach out to my office at (501) 324-5941 or go to my website at hill.house.gov

Sincerely,

Representative French Hill
