U.S. Congressman French Hill

Dear Friends,

It was a beautiful week in the Natural State, and I had a great time meeting with folks all across Central Arkansas. I met with many different groups, including elementary school teachers and learners, conservation advocates, and community leaders. We discussed how to strengthen and secure our communities, and these conversations help me to best serve you. I invite you to connect with me at hill.house.gov or facebook.com/repfrenchhill to let me know what’s important to you and your family.

Enjoyed my tour of Academics Plus Charter School in Maumelle. Was glad to share some of my recent experiences in Egypt with the sixth graders currently studying Ancient Egypt. We discussed strategies for concurrent credit and how to best prepare students for college. #NationalSchoolChoiceWeek

Good to visit with Perry County Judge Toby Davis and local leaders of Arkansas’s forests to discuss Flatside Wilderness, tourism, and economic matters.

More than 40 fire stations from across Arkansas participated in my workshop on Assistance to Fire Fighter Grants. Thank you to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 6 for sending a representative. Last year, Central Arkansas received over $1.3 million in fire fighter grants to better serve our communities. Contact Chloe Maxwell in my office at (501) 324-5941 for more information about how to apply for FEMA and other federal grants.

Looked at the damage from the EF-1 tornado with Pastor Joel Slayton whose 140-year-old church – Needs Creek Baptist Church - lost its roof and had extensive damage like many areas in Faulkner County. It's great to see neighbor helping neighbor, which shows the strength of our Arkansas communities.

Thanks to the Fox News 16 for featuring Central High School student Anne Li, this year's Congressional App Challenge. Anne, from Little Rock, designed an app called "Car Check" to remind parents to take their kids out to the car. Click here to view a presentation of the app.

On Thursday, I visited with a group of inmates at Wrightsville correction facility. I was inspired by their dedication to getting the skills they need to help them be successful when they shift back to society. The Pathway to Freedom group, working with the Arkansas Department of Correction, does excellent work through hands-on training, mentorship, and spiritual enrichment. Thanks to the Department of Correction for partnering with Scott McLean and his team in offering this program to change hearts and lives.

It was great to discuss rural broadband investment with some of Arkansas’s telecommunications leaders. Access to reliable, fast broadband is critical to Arkansas’s economy, and we are hard at work to improve internet access and create new jobs through our state.

Always great stopping by Mainstreet Donut Shop in Perryville. Enjoyed the visit with community and civic leaders, including my former District Director, Jill Cox. Appreciate local efforts to strengthen the community in various ways, including economic transportation issues, and I will work with you on how best to help those struggling with opioid addiction.

Thank you for staying in touch with me as I work on your behalf. If there's anything I can do for you, please call (501) 324-5941 or at hill.house.gov

Sincerely,

Representative French Hill
