Dear Friend,

I attended several Veterans Day events across central Arkansas last week.

I began the day in Conway at Julie’s Sweet Shoppe, a Veterans Day tradition of mine. The community never fails to show appreciation for our Veterans and their dedication and service to our nation.

Following Julie’s Sweet Shoppe, I attended the Veterans Day Ceremony hosted by the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. During this event I spoke with Paul Dillard, National Commander of the American Legion, Col. Nate Todd, secretary of the ADVA, Margie Scott, director of the Central Arkansas Veteran’s Healthcare System, Sen. John Boozman, and Col. Angela Ochoa, the 19^th Airlift Wing Commander at the Little Rock Air Base.

My staff also attended numerous events and celebrations for Veterans Day throughout the district. These events included the Veterans Walk of Flags, Jacksonville's Veterans Day event, Perry County's Veterans Day event, the Clinton Veterans Day event hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the 100th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Gold Star memorial at the Arkansas State Capitol.

I am constantly reminded that we live in the greatest nation in the world. But on days such as Veterans Day, where we see entire communities come together to appreciate our local veterans for their service and dedication to our nation, I am a little extra thankful. These events highlighted Arkansas’s best, and I am honored to have been a part of it.

OCTOBER 2021 VETERAN CASEWORK WINS

One of my priorities is aiding our veterans. I am thankful for their service to our nation and honored to be in a position where I can give back and serve our veterans.

I am proud to have three combat veterans on my team to directly help Arkansas’s veterans.

Last month, we closed 64 cases for our veterans and helped our veterans receive $127,656.76 in earned benefits. So far this year, we have recovered over $2.1 million in earned benefits for our veterans.

RECOGNIZING AIR FORCE TECH SERGEANT ALLEN AT BEEBE HIGH SCHOOL

In 2017, Mr. Ryan Allen reached out to my office requesting assistance with obtaining a Purple Heart after he was wounded during a deployment to Iraq in 2003. Two weeks ago, my office received a response from the Air Force and last week, I had the honor of being a part of the Purple Heart Ceremony for Tech Sergeant Allen at Beebe High School.

It was such a pleasure to share this special day with his wife, Janet, his girls, Gracie and Ellie, his family, friends and students at Beebe High School.

I am pleased that we were able to assist Tech Sergeant Allen in receiving the honor he deserved. Sgt. Allen, thank you for your service to our country.

SEARCY REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

I joined the Searcy Regional Chamber of Commerce for a roundtable discussion with community and business leaders.

Talking with community leaders at this lunch reinforced the truth: escalating inflation and the persisting supply chain crisis are having clear, negative impacts on our communities. I always enjoy meeting with these community leaders to develop ideas and get their input on matters important to their local communities.

REMINDER: 501 AREA CODE CHANGES

As of October 24^th, those with a landline with the 501 area code will now have to dial the complete ten-digit phone number they are hoping to reach.

This will include the area code and the telephone number.

This is the only area code in Arkansas that will be affected by the change.
