Dear Friends,

I am pleased to hear that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is continuing to look for ways to help eligible people receive their Economic Impact Payments (EIP), especially people with children still waiting for their $500 supplemental payment.

Here is what you need to know:

If you are waiting on $500 supplemental payment for a child and used the Non-Filers tool after May 5th there is no action needed.

For those with Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits who have already used the Non-Filers tool to provide information on children, no further action is needed. The IRS will automatically make a payment in October.

Didn’t use the IRS Non-Filers tool yet? Provide information by September 30th.

For those who receive Social Security, SSI, RRB, or VA benefits and have not used the Non-Filers tool to provide information on their child, they should register online by September 30th using the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool

Remember, anyone who filed or plans to file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return should file the tax return and not use this tool.

For those unable to access the Non-Filers tool, they may submit a simplified paper return following the procedures described in this FAQ on IRS.gov.

Any beneficiary who misses the September 30th deadline will need to wait until next year and claim it as a credit on their 2020 federal income tax return.

Those who received their original EIP by direct deposit will also have any supplemental payment direct deposited to the same account. Others will receive a check.

Eligible recipients can check the status of their payments using the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov. In addition, a notice verifying the $500-per-child supplemental payment will be sent to each recipient and should be retained with other tax records.

Other Non-Filers can still get a payment; must act by October 15th.

Though most Americans have already received their EIPs, the IRS reminds people with little or no income and who are not required to file tax returns that they remain eligible to receive an EIP.

People in this group should also use the Non-Filers’ tool – but they need to act by October 15th to receive their payment this year.

Anyone who misses the October 15th deadline will need to wait until next year and claim it as a credit on their 2020 federal income tax return.

Available in both English and Spanish, the Non-Filers tool is designed for people with incomes typically below $24,400 for married couples, and $12,200 for singles. This includes couples and individuals who are experiencing homelessness. People can qualify, even if they don’t work or have no earned income. But low- and moderate-income workers and working families eligible to receive special tax benefits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit, cannot use this tool. They will need to file a regular return by using IRS Free File or by another method.

RESOURCES FOR PARENTS AND EDUCATORS

Join My Discussion with the Librarian of Congress on Wednesday

This Wednesday at 2:00 PM, the Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, is joining me on Facebook LIVE for a discussion about resources available for parents and educators as we begin the school year on August 24th

Through these challenging academic times, the Library of Congress has been providing critical online resources catered to distance learning. I am excited to hear how the Library of Congress is rising to the challenge of helping educators meet the needs of students this coming semester.

centennial for women's suffrage
One hundred years ago today, Tennessee became the last state needed to ratify the 19th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, ensuring that women across the country had the guaranteed right to vote.

Arkansas was ahead of the curve, voting to ratify the 19th Amendment almost a year earlier on June 28, 1919.

It was a long fight for Women's Suffrage. The ratification of the 19th Amendment was another successful step in building toward President Lincoln's goal of a more "perfect union."

Congress must come together to address COVID-19

Joining Fox News on America's News Headquarters

In order to defeat COVID-19 and restore our way of life, Republicans and Democrats need to meet at the negotiating table and develop a bipartisan plan of action.

Let's put our differences aside, meet in the middle, and address the needs of the American people.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress know what we have to do to help the American people.

We need to:

- Have another round of Economic Impact Payments
- Resolve issues surrounding unemployment compensation
- Make sure that our schools have the proper funding
- Extend the Paycheck Protection Program

Over the weekend, I spoke with Kristin Fisher on America's News Headquarters about what Congress must do to fight COVID-19 and help get our economy back to full capacity.

Let's meet in the middle and get this thing done.

HELP FOR VETERANS IN NEED

Improving Access to Suicide Prevention Resources for Veterans

It is a tragic fact that in this country, an average of 20 Veterans dies by suicide each day. Suicide prevention is a top priority and together we are making headway in veteran suicide prevention, especially in crisis intervention.

The VA announced that it is partnering with OnStar’s emergency services to improve access to suicide prevention resources for Veterans.

This partnership will offer Veterans in crisis the opportunity to be transferred to around-the-clock, confidential support via VA’s Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) when they use the emergency services button in an OnStar-equipped vehicle or OnStar Guardian smartphone app.

To anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide, or if you have a loved one you are concerned about, please reach out for help. You are not alone. Help is available 24/7 through 911 or the national suicide prevention lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

My office also stands ready to help in any way that we can; please call us at (501) 324-5941. For my part, I will continue to deliver legislation that supports mental health programs that save lives, because one life lost to suicide is too many.

A legacy of conservation

Congratulating Ken Reeves for His Work as Game and Fish Commission Chairman

Recently, I spoke on the House Floor to recognize Mr. Ken Reeves’s outstanding contributions to conservation in Arkansas and his dedication to keeping Arkansas the Natural State. Ken served on the Game and Fish Commission as chairman for 7 years.

To watch my speech, click HERE or on the image below.

Ken’s love of fishing and passion for conserving wildlife from a young age made him an easy appointment to the Game and Fish Commission. During his time as chairman, he demonstrated his passion for making a positive change for Arkansas Outdoors. He is leaving behind a legacy of improved outdoor services that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

His service to the Natural State and to championing wildlife and conservation projects will never be forgotten. I join all Arkansans in thanking him for his efforts.

It is my honor to represent you in Congress. Please contact me at (501) 324-5941 or Hill.House.Gov if I may be of service to you.

Sincerely,
Representative French Hill
