Across Arkansas, heartbroken families have told me their stories about how the opioid crisis has claimed the lives of their loved ones. During Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week, I want to bring attention to this national tragedy. In 2017, more than 130 Americans died of opioid overdoses each day, and nearly half of these deaths were attributable to fentanyl. Because of one person’s input, Senator Tom Cotton and I took action to fight fentanyl trafficking. Our bill, the Fentanyl Sanctions Act, passed the house in July, and we are fighting to make it a law so that other families won’t fall victim to fentanyl traffickers. Arkansas Drug Director Kirk Lane and I teamed up to discuss the importance of this bill and how Arkansas is fighting this crisis. To watch, click HERE or on the image below.
The first meeting of my Women's Veteran Initiative will be on Thursday, September 17, at 10 AM CT. I started the WVI to bring together women veterans to advise me on needs specific to you and your loved ones and to highlight the resources available to you. The meeting will include representatives for Senator John Boozman and Rep. Rick Crawford as well as staff members from Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and the Veterans Benefits Administration. To participate, please contact Dlayne Tucciarone in my office at (501) 324-5941 and Dlayne.Tucciarone@Mail.House.Gov Help me better serve the women veterans of central Arkansas by clicking HERE or on the image below to take my survey.
On Friday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation was awarded a $10 million Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). I was proud to support Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde’s and the state’s grant application. These funds will help move people and commerce along this corridor faster and more safely and will support jobs in central Arkansas. These grants will help Arkansans get to work faster, visit family more easily, and improve the condition of transportation by the reconstruction and improvement of two sections of U.S. Highway 67 northeast of Little Rock. In addition, the project will widen U.S. Highway 67 from four to six lanes, construct an overpass, convert frontage roads to one-way operation, and rebuild two interchanges.
