Dear Friends,
This week, I met with future Arkansas leaders, honored President George H.W. Bush on the House floor, supported the farm bill that brings much needed security and support to hardworking Arkansas farm families, and more. Thank you for taking the time to follow my work in central Arkansas and Washington. Here are the highlights from this week.
Supporting Arkansas Farmers
Rep. Hill visited the Bearskin and Isbell farms in September 2018.
Agriculture is Arkansas’s number one economic industry, and this year’s comprehensive farm bill brings much needed security and support to hardworking Arkansas farm families. Farmers benefit from programs funded through this bill including commodity, conservation, and research programs. We take pride in what we produce in our state, and I will continue supporting our farmers and ranchers who produce agricultural products that are second to none. Read more here.
Taking the First Step
This past spring, I was pleased to support the passage of the House’s criminal justice reform package, the FIRST STEP Act, which helps to reduce recidivism rates and adds needed workers to the workforce. I was grateful for the chance to discuss the impacts of this important bill with Sheriff-Elect Eric Higgins from Pulaski County, Paul Chapman with Restore Hope, and Ruby Welch with #Cut50. There is more work to be done, but we are working hard to reform and improve our criminal justice system in Arkansas and across the nation.
Giving Our Sickest Children a Fighting Chance
Rep. Hill visited the NICU at Arkansas Children's Hospital in August 2018.
Our nation’s children with severe, chronic medical challenges deserve quality, comprehensive approaches to health care. This week, we passed a bill in the House that helps America’s children with complex medical conditions receive the care they need. As a father and former board member of Arkansas Children's Hospital, I’m pleased to support this piece of legislation that gives our most vulnerable children the attention and care they deserve. Meeting with Future Leaders
I had a wonderful time with my Future Leaders Council, and we had a special guest speaker join us from North Little Rock, Arkansas State Rep. Doug House. We discussed federalism, voting, and elections. Afterwards, everyone made their own campaign poster. Each one of these young people is ready to help shape our country, and I couldn’t be more proud.
Honoring President George H.W. Bush
I had the privilege of honoring the life and legacy of my friend and former boss, President George H.W. Bush, on the House floor this week. He was an excellent sportsman, a man of warm and goofy humor, and a man who, in every instance, put himself in the position of serving others. Martha and I will miss him dearly. Watch my tribute on the House floor as I recount a life well lived, and a man of exceptional distinction here.
Securing Our Borders
Rep. Hill talking with border patrol during his visit to the Southern Border in March of 2018.
The American and Arkansan people want adequate border security. House Republicans have proposed concrete security initiatives and voted on them. I've visited the southern border four times, and I brought back these key takeaways: we need more manpower, proper technology, judges, and an effective set of barriers (depending on the terrain/topography) including a wall, fencing, sophisticated technology, and other means to protect the citizens of our country. I am committed to ensuring that our borders remain secure.
Relocating Offices
We moved our D.C. office to 1533 Longworth House Office Building. Please stop by when you visit our nation’s capital. We are always happy to see fellow Arkansans in D.C. We would also love the chance to show you our nation's historic U.S. Capitol building when you do come. Schedule a tour here: hill.house.gov/forms/tourrequest.
Thank you for taking time to keep up with the work I'm doing on your behalf. If I can be of any assistance to you or your family, please reach out to my office at (501) 324-5941 or Hill.House.Gov.
