COVID-19 Update | September 17, 2020

Dear Friends,

It’s an uncertain time for many Arkansans and Americans with the ongoing public health crisis that we as a nation face.

You are right to expect your elected officials to put aside party and work to aid struggling families.

Rather than delivering the relief that Arkansas families and small businesses desperately need, we continue to spend time on another set of “messaging” bills, while well intentioned, received little or no input from House Republicans and will more than likely never become law.

House Democrats continue to rely on grandstanding and talk about bills that they have passed in the House rather than bipartisan legislation that has been signed into law.

Today, I took to the House Floor because you have told me that this is unacceptable to hardworking Arkansans like you.

Watch my full speech HERE.

It is time for my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to get serious and stop trying to score political points at the expense of Arkansas families.

It is time to get much needed bipartisan COVID-19 legislation signed into law.

We’ve already proven how much good we can accomplish for the American people when we work together.

WOMEN'S VETERANS INITIATIVE virtual roundtable

Rolling out Forum for Women Veterans

Today I kicked off my Veterans Women's Initiative (WVI) with a virtual roundtable. I heard directly from women veterans in our community how I can best serve them, and shared resources available for female veterans in central Arkansas.

Thank you to the representatives from Rep. Rick Crawford as well as staff members from the Veterans Benefits Administration for participating in our discussion.

I started the WVI to bring together women veterans to advise me on needs specific to you and your loved ones and to highlight the resources available to you.

If you would like to participate in the next discussion, contact Dlayne Tucciarone in my office, who is a fellow woman veteran, at (501) 324-5941 and Dlayne.Tucciarone@Mail.House.Gov.

Help me better serve the women veterans of central Arkansas by clicking HERE to take my survey.

A historic day

Breakthrough in Peace for the Middle East

Tuesday, I was present on the South Lawn of the White House for a historic occasion -- the signing of the Abraham Accords. This achievement proves the success of President Trump’s years of work resetting American leadership in the Middle East and support for our ally, Israel.

These accords are an important step for peace in the Middle East. Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are the first Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel in more than two decades.

I applaud the president, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Emirati Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and Bahrani King Hamad Al Khalifa for coming together to achieve this historical milestone.

Combating the Opioid Epidemic

Wednesday, I wore purple to demonstrate my support of National Recovery Month and for every heartbroken family in Arkansas who has lost a loved one to addiction.

Supporting those who are in recovery from substance abuse disorders and mental illness is some of the most important work that Congress has done.

A bipartisan bill I introduced with Rep. Max Rose (D-NY), the Fentanyl Sanctions Act, was included in last year’s National Defense Authorization Act, which was signed into law in December 2019.

I will continue to partner with our community leaders and law enforcement to raise awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and support effective education and treatment programs to curb this alarming trend for all Americans who struggle with addiction.

Sharing Educational Resources for Distance Learning

I would like to share resources that can help parents, educators, and students succeed during this unique school semester.

Many historical associations are offering distance learning programs for students learning at home.

The Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., offers distance learning programs for both individuals and school programs. Using live videoconferencing, teachers, students, and history-lovers alike can engage with online primary source images and participate in interactive, virtual field trips, and live-streamed events.

These are wonderful opportunities for Arkansan families, educators, and history lovers to continue to learn more about our nation’s fascinating past.

Sincerely,
Representative French Hill
