Dear Friends,

Over the past five years, I have seen Republicans and Democrats work together on policies important to Americans.

One of these is addressing challenges faced by child care providers due to COVID-19 as they work to keep children and families safe and healthy because quality child care is essential to our nation’s successful economic recovery..

For our part, Congress worked on a bipartisan basis to increase funding for the Child Care and Development Block Grant and included $3.5 billion in the CARES Act for much-needed support to child care providers and essential workers.

Paycheck protection program helping Arkansas workers

Arkansas Jobs Retained, Businesses Open

Since the Paycheck Protection Program began, here in Arkansas we have seen over 42,000 small business loans totaling over $3.3 billion. These funds represent thousands of jobs still in place across the state thanks to the PPP.

I am proud to share the stories of small businesses in our community who have benefited from this program, including Arkansas Destinations (Jana Cohen, owner), the Conway Institute of Music (James Skelton, owner), and the Robust Olive (Jill Cady, owner).

These businesses received assistance from the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC), which is dedicated to helping small businesses achieve success. If you are a small business trying to navigate this difficult time, through a PPP loan or otherwise, please reach out for further information.

DISCUSSING IMPORTANCE OF PPP ON BLOOMBERG RADIO

Congress Should Help Workers and Small Businesses by Extending the Paycheck Protection Program

On Tuesday, I spoke with David Asman on Fox Business’ After the Bell about the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

The PPP has offered a lifeline to business across Arkansas and the nation and it is important make more flexible to enable suffering businesses to have access to the program. The PPP is a key part of being able to keep across the country employed and speed economic recovery after this terrible virus.

Powering Industry on america's waterways

REDEDICATING THE SLACKWATER HARBOR OF THE PORT OF LITTLE ROCK

The Little Rock Port Authority first dedicated its Slackwater Harbor in September of 1987, named after Fred I. Brown, Jr., who was a longtime board member and supporter of the port authority. Recently, the Little Rock Port Authority decided to rededicate the harbor with the help of Fred's sons Bobby and Fred Brown III. This is a fitting tribute to Fred’s service to central Arkansas.

I was proud to lend my support to the Port Authority when they applied for a U.S. Department of Transportation grant and was very pleased when they were awarded a $6.2M TIGER grant (now known as BUILD), which will help build a new dock on the harbor that will include the rail-to-barge and barge-to-rail capability.

I am proud of Little Rock's port that powers industryin the Midsouth and look forward to its continued expansion.
