I am proud that Arkansas is a leader in the United States for skilled workforce development.

Last week, I joined Governor Asa Hutchinson and state and local leaders to announce that Be Pro Be Proud is receiving a $1.45 million grant to support their efforts to bring skilled workforce workshops to communities across Arkansas.

The Be Pro Be Proud program was launched in Arkansas in 2016 as a response to the state’s workforce shortage. Be Pro Be Proud is an initiative from the Associated Industries of Arkansas and it is a statewide program to address the skills gap within our skilled labor.

The organization currently operates one Mobile Workshop Unit, which is a tractor trailer fitted with displays so that middle and high school students across the state can have the hands-on opportunity to try out skilled workforce careers. With this grant, they will be able to put another unit in service.

As the founder and Co-Chairman of the Skilled Workforce Caucus, I am working to highlight skilled workforce education and bring opportunities like these to Arkansas and across the nation. Whether it’s is through a four-year college, an apprenticeship, vocational school, or career and technical education, providing students with an array of options is essential to creating a diverse and dependable workforce for the 21^st century. I am working hard in Congress to ensure that these opportunities are available for Arkansas students.
