Dear Friends,

Yesterday, I paid my respects to civil rights giant Congressman John Lewis as he laid in state inside of the U.S. Capitol.

You may view a video of the services HERE

On Sunday, he crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, for the final time.

I will never forget the incredible experience that Martha and I had five years ago of walking across that very same bridge with Congressman Lewis to honor the 50th Anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday’.

We'll miss John Lewis, but we can all draw comfort from the fact that his legacy lives on through the fruits of his struggle for equality during the 1960s, his leadership, and irreplaceable voice during his three decades of service in Congress, and the USNS John Lewis sailing the seas.

Closer to home in Little Rock, though, the enhanced Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site will bear testimony to his extraordinary work in Congress, and I will be forever proud and grateful for his partnership in passing that bill – now law.
The House of Representatives is a poorer place without John Lewis' beautiful voice and his beautiful message that brought our House together.

Our prayers are with Congressman Lewis’ family and friends.

Beware of COVID-19 scams

Tips to Avoid IRS-Related COVID-19 Scams

As you may be aware, criminals have been exploiting the current pandemic with various scams by attempting to intercept Economic Impact Payments (EIP) and/or steal sensitive taxpayer information during these challenging times. This has had a disproportionate effect on our seniors and other vulnerable populations.

Beware of fraudulent web pages, social media-based communications, and “phishing” emails or text messages. These claim to be from the IRS and ask for sensitive personal information so that you may receive your EIP. These are scams. Do not click on links or open attached files.

According to the IRS here's how you can tell a scam:

  • Generally, the IRS initially contact people by mail –not by phone.
  • If the IRS does contact you by telephone, they will not insist on any pre-payment using an iTunes card, gift card, prepaid debit card, money order, or wire transfer.
  • The IRS will never request personal or financial information by e-mail, text, letter, or any social media.

To report a stolen EIP or fraud related to EIPs, click HERE

For issues related to EIP direct deposits, which were not routed correctly, please contact the IRS at (1-800) 919-9835.

ensuring better COVID-19 Testing

Discussing Our Letter to Vice President on MSNBC

Hospitals across the country have had their internal COVID-19 testing capacity severely limited due to a shortage of reagents, chemicals needed in the testing process.

Last week I joined Katy Tur and Chuck Todd on MSNBC to discuss the next round of COVID-19 funding and the lack of sufficient testing reagents, as highlighted in the Arkansas delegation's letter to Vice President Mike Pence sent earlier this month.
