Tomorrow morning at 9:00 I am hosting a Facebook LIVE session about entrepreneurship in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to hearing the perspective of Wayne Miller, the Executive Director of the Venture Center. Every business in Arkansas has been impacted by the virus in some way, and I invite you to listen in on our conversation.
The flu vaccine is the best protection against becoming sick from the flu, especially for those at risk of flu-based complications such as those who are above the age of 65 or have underlying conditions. Yesterday afternoon I visited Kavanaugh Pharmacy in Little Rock to get my flu shot and I encourage you to visit your local pharmacy to get yours.
Recently, I took to the House Floor to recognize Dionne Jackson for her dedication to the children of Arkansas to improve their literacy. Dionne Jackson recognized the importance of literacy at a young age, after realizing that a family member could not read or write when they signed a document with an “X” rather than their name. This experience inspires her work at AR Kids Read. As the executive director of AR Kids Read, she works diligently to further their mission of advancing the literacy of Arkansas children, and their families. Their goal is to have students read proficiently by the third grade. Our community is extremely grateful to her for recognizing this essential need.
Yesterday I joined Executive Director of the Arkansas Regional Innovation HUB Dr. Chris Jones and Victoria Mays, a graduate student at UCA, for a conversation on how we can grow Arkansas's arts community. Arts means to me enrichment. It's about the enrichment of the person, making you a better person. Of course, there is also a storytelling aspect that's so incredible in all the arts. But for me, the arts are that sense of personal enrichment. To watch our full conversation, click HERE or on the image below.
I have some excellent news for central Arkansas veterans. The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) is beginning to reestablish in-person benefits. Currently, the Little Rock Regional Office has a tentative reopening date of Monday, October 19, 2020. This reopening will provide easier access to quality care by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for our heroes and I am glad to hear that our veterans will soon have a return to in-person help. In the meantime, veterans can continue to engage with the VBA by calling 1-800-827-1000 or by visiting their website HERE. It is my honor to represent you in Congress. Please contact me at (501) 324-5941 or Hill.House.Gov if I may be of service to you.Sincerely, Representative French Hill |
