Rep. Hill Statement on Supreme Court’s Action Blocking the Biden Administration’s Eviction Moratorium

Rep. French Hill (AR-02), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance on the Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement after the Supreme Court blocked the Biden Administration’s eviction moratorium.

“The Biden Administration knew that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) unilateral extension of the moratorium would not hold up in court, yet they recklessly pressed forward, and now it is the American people who will suffer. In June, the Supreme Court clearly expressed that congressional authorization would be necessary for the CDC to extend the moratorium past July 31. Democrats had two months to pass legislation yet chose not to act or even bring a bill to the floor of the House of Representatives because they didn’t have the votes.

“Now, the only way to address the consequences of this failure to act is to effectively distribute the nearly $47 billion Congress already appropriated to the landlords and tenants that desperately need it, something the Biden Administration has failed to do. House Republicans have a real solution to fix the Biden Administration’s mismanagement of the Emergency Rental Assistance programs, the Renter Protection Act, which would help get money out the door more quickly and keep Americans in their homes.”
